WebVault Terms of Service
The short version
WebVault is a browser extension that saves your tabs, bookmarks and notes and encrypts them on your device. The local vault is free. Encrypted sync between your devices costs $4 per month or $40 per year. You own what you save, we cannot read it, and if you lose your keys nobody — including us — can get your vault back. The rest of this document is the long version.
1. Who you are agreeing with
These Terms are a contract between you and Trinity Security, LLC ("WebVault", "we", "us"). By installing the extension, creating an account, or paying for a plan, you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use WebVault.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 16 years old to use WebVault. If you are using it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to accept these Terms for that organisation.
3. What WebVault is
- The local vault is free. No account is required. Your saved content and your encryption keys stay on your device.
- Encrypted sync is a paid subscription. It moves encrypted records between devices you have approved. It does not give us the ability to read them.
We may add, change or retire features. If we retire something you are paying for, we will tell you before it happens and refund any unused prepaid period.
4. Your account
You are responsible for your account credentials and your passkeys, and for activity that happens under your account. Tell us promptly at support@webvaultapp.com if you believe your account has been misused. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider; keeping your email account secure is part of keeping your WebVault account secure.
5. Your keys, and what we cannot do for you
Read this section before you rely on WebVault for anything important.
Your vault is encrypted with keys derived from your passkey, on your device. We never receive those keys, and we hold no copy, escrow or backdoor.
If you lose every enrolled passkey and your recovery file, your vault is permanently unreadable — by you, by us, and by anyone else. We cannot reset it, restore it, or let you back in. No support request, legal demand or exception will change this, because the ability to do it does not exist.
That is the guarantee working as intended, but it puts a real duty on you: keep at least one enrolled passkey, and keep your recovery file somewhere you will still have it after a lost laptop or a wiped browser profile. You accept this risk when you use WebVault.
6. Your content
You own everything you save. We claim no ownership of it and no right to use it.
To operate sync, you grant us a limited, revocable licence to store and transmit your encrypted records between your approved devices. That licence covers ciphertext only — ciphertext is all we ever hold — and it exists solely to deliver the service you asked for. It ends when you delete the data or close your account.
We will not sell your data, mine it, train on it, or hand it to advertisers. We could not read it in order to do so even if we wanted to. How we handle the limited information we do hold is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.
7. Paid plans, billing and refunds
- Price. $4 per month, or $40 per year. Prices are in US dollars and exclude any tax we are required to collect.
- Payment. Handled by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe directly and never reach our systems.
- Renewal. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; access continues to the end of the period you have paid for.
- Refunds. If WebVault is not for you, email support@webvaultapp.com within 30 days of a charge and we will refund it in full, no questions asked.
- Price changes. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before a price change affects you, and it will never apply to a period you have already paid for.
- Statutory rights. If you are a consumer in the EEA or UK, you keep your legal right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days. Nothing here reduces it.
8. Acceptable use
Do not: break the law with WebVault; attack, overload or probe our infrastructure without permission; try to gain access to other people's data; resell the sync service; or use it to store content you have no right to hold.
Security research is welcome. If you find a vulnerability, report it to support@webvaultapp.com rather than exploiting it, and give us a reasonable chance to fix it before publishing. We will not pursue good-faith research that follows that path.
9. The software licence
The WebVault source code is published under the Functional Source License (FSL-1.1-Apache-2.0), which converts to Apache 2.0 over time. That licence governs the code. These Terms govern the hosted sync service. Where the two overlap, the licence controls your rights in the software and these Terms control your use of the service.
10. Availability
We aim to keep sync running and will not be careless with it, but we do not promise uninterrupted service and we offer no uptime guarantee at this price. If sync is unavailable, your local vault keeps working — that is the point of a local-first design.
11. Termination
You may stop using WebVault at any time and delete your account from within the extension.
We may suspend or close your account if you materially breach these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we discontinue the service. Except where the law or an ongoing abuse investigation prevents it, we will give you notice and a chance to export your vault first. If we close your account for our own convenience, we will refund any unused prepaid period.
Closing your account starts cryptographic erasure of your synced data within 30 days, as described in the Privacy Policy. Your local vault is yours to keep or delete.
12. Disclaimers
WEBVAULT IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that it will preserve your data indefinitely. WebVault is not a backup service. Keep your own copies of anything you cannot afford to lose; the export feature exists for exactly this.
Some jurisdictions do not allow these exclusions, in which case they apply to the fullest extent permitted and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to WebVault is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) fifty US dollars ($50).
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost revenue, or lost or unrecoverable data, even if we have been advised such damages are possible.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law — including death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud.
14. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify us against claims, damages and reasonable legal costs arising from your unlawful use of WebVault or your breach of these Terms. This does not apply to claims caused by our own wrongdoing.
15. Disputes
Please email support@webvaultapp.com first. Most problems are faster to fix than to litigate, and we would rather fix them.
If that fails, you and we agree that any dispute will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered under the rules of a recognised arbitration body in Virginia, rather than in court. The arbitrator decides the dispute; judgment on the award may be entered in any court with jurisdiction.
YOU AND WE EACH WAIVE THE RIGHT TO A JURY TRIAL AND THE RIGHT TO PARTICIPATE IN A CLASS, COLLECTIVE OR REPRESENTATIVE ACTION. Claims must be brought individually.
Exceptions, which do not go to arbitration:
- Either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court.
- Either of us may seek an injunction to stop misuse of intellectual property or unauthorised access to systems.
- If you are a consumer in the EEA or the UK, this section does not apply to you. You keep the right to bring proceedings in your local courts, and to the mandatory consumer protections of your country.
If the class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a particular claim, that claim proceeds in court and the rest of this section still stands.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protections of the mandatory law of your own country.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. If a change materially affects your rights, we will give you reasonable notice — by email or in the extension — before it takes effect. Continuing to use WebVault after that means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not, cancel and we will refund any unused prepaid period.
18. General
- Severability. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
- No waiver. Not enforcing a term once does not waive it.
- Assignment. You may not assign these Terms without our consent. We may assign them to a successor in a merger or sale of the business, on notice to you.
- Entire agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about WebVault, and replace any earlier understanding.
